All Inspections

During an inspection looking at part of the service

At our previous inspection we found concerns with the home's arrangements for managing medicines. We carried out this inspection to check whether action had been taken to address these concerns. We found there were improved arrangements to make sure people living at the home were given their medicines safely.

We spoke with two people who used the service. One person said that his foot was much better since staff had been looking after it. The other said that 'the girls are lovely' and 'I get my tablets when I need them'.

During a routine inspection

We spent time observing how staff supported people who lived at the home. People were happy with the care provided. Comments included 'I'm extremely impressed with the care; they go above and beyond their job. It's the best I've seen (relative's name) for a long time", 'The staff, they're good' and 'It's nice here, they look after me.'

We checked a sample of six people's medication records and found three of them were complete, up to date and had been signed by staff when medicines had been administered. However, we saw that one person had been given their medication but it had not been signed for by the person who administered it. We also checked the management of other medicines and found some stock levels and records were inaccurate.

We looked at staffing levels within the home. People said they thought there was enough staff. One person said 'There seems to be enough, if you mention something they are straight onto it', another said 'Yes, I never have to wait too long for anything.'

We saw that people who used the service, relatives and staff were asked for their views about their care and treatment through regular meetings. Relatives and residents meetings were held quarterly, with the most recent meeting held in February 2013.

People said that they knew they could speak to a member of staff if they had a complaint. One person said "I would say straight away if I wasn't happy about something", another said 'If we have any problems we can tell them.'
