All Inspections

4 September and 10 October 2013

During an inspection looking at part of the service

We did not speak with people who used the service on this occasion, as we carried out this inspection to follow up on three outstanding areas of non-compliance with the management of medicines, using, recording and storage, which we noted at our last inspection on 22 May 2013.

We found that the required improvements to the using and recording of medicines had been made by 04 September 2013, and the improvements to the storage of medicines had been made by 11 September 2013.

Therefore the provider now had effective arrangements in place to managing medicines safely.

During an inspection looking at part of the service

We spoke with people using the service and staff at the home during our inspection. People told us they were very happy living at the home and staff were always polite and respectful. One person told us ''the food and staff are excellent'' A relative told us that the staff communicated well.

We found that people or their relatives were consulted with about their care and the care plans reflected people's needs. Support was in place to ensure that staff received adequate supervision and training. However, we found that in one area of the home that some medication records were not always completed accurately.

15 February 2013

During a routine inspection

People we spoke with told us that they were happy living in the home and that staff were "very kind". They told us that staff were always helpful they told us they were happy with the way that the service manages their medicines. One relative told us staff were had supported them and their relative through a very difficult time and nothing was too much trouble. Relatives we spoke to told us that whenever they visited and that they felt that staff kept them informed of any problems or changes in their health.

We found that people were happy at the home and that they felt supported by staff to maintain their independence where possible. However, we also found that care was not always carried out in the way that had been planned and that people's records, including medication administration records were not always accurate or reflected the needs of the individual's living at the home.

Staff we spoke with showed a good understanding of the safeguarding of vulnerable adults but had not always been supported adequately in the roles through training. Medication was also not always stored securely or administered correctly according to the prescription. People were not protected against the risks associated with medicines because the provider did not have appropriate arrangements in place to manage medicines.
