During a routine inspection

People using the service told us they were satisfied with the care provided at Crawshaw Hall Medical Centre. Members of staff explained what they were doing before they carried out care tasks so that people could give their consent. One person said, 'Everybody's very nice.'

We found that suitable arrangements were in place for the safe keeping and handling of medicines.

We noted that recruitment procedures were thorough in order to protect people from the employment of unsuitable staff.

We found that systems were in place to monitor the quality of the service provided. There was evidence to demonstrate that people were consulted about all aspects of the care and facilities provided at the home.

During a routine inspection

People told us they liked living at Crawshaw Hall Medical Centre and were involved in planning their care. One person said, 'It's very nice here, I'm very well looked after.' Another person said, 'It's lovely here, nothing's too much trouble and I knew I should be safe.'

Members of staff were aware of people's individual likes and dislikes. This helped to ensure that people were cared for in the way they preferred. One person said, 'They do what they're asked to do.' One visitor told us she had filled in a form about her relative's likes and dislikes and said, 'The staff are fantastic, they can't do enough for you.'

One person told us that leisure activities and celebrations such as Christmas were discussed at the regular meetings held for people using the service. In addition to the activities organised at the home people were taken shopping and for pub lunches.

All the people we asked said the meals were good and they had a choice of menu for all meals. Every month people had a meal from a local Chinese or Indian takeaway.

People told us the daily routine was flexible and they could choose when to get up and go to bed.
