During an inspection looking at part of the service

In this report, the name of a registered manager appears who was not in post and not managing the regulatory activities at this location at the time of the inspection. Their name appears because they were still a Registered Manager on our register at the time.

This was a focused visit to check if the compliance actions made following our previous visit on 5 February 2013 had been addressed. Therefore we did not speak to people using the service at this visit. People that we spoke with at our visit on 5 February 2013 confirmed that they were happy with the support and services provided to them.

A compliance action was left at our last visit which related to the medication administration practices that were in place for one person using the service. This was because this person was not always given their medication in a safe way. At this visit the records in place demonstrated that medication administration practices in place for this person had improved and showed us that their care plan and risk assessment regarding medication was being followed appropriately.

A compliance action was left at our last visit which related to staff supervision, as no records of staff formal supervision sessions were seen for 2012 and staff were unable to recall when they last received formal supervision. At this visit records in place demonstrated that actions had been taken to ensure staff performance was monitored and that staff were effectively supported in carrying out their roles.

During a routine inspection

In this report, the name of a registered manager appears who was not in post and not managing the regulatory activities at this location at the time of the inspection. Their name appears because they were still a Registered Manager on our register at the time.

People were very complimentary about the support and care they received. People told us that their preferred routines were respected by staff. One person told us, 'we have total freedom but overall care, the staff are absolutely brilliant, very happy and willing to do anything, very dedicated.' Comments from other people using the service included, 'the best, the nuns and staff are lovely, very relaxed atmosphere, very high quality care.'

Care records provided sufficient information regarding people's support needs. In general people's needs were assessed to ensure they were supported in a safe way. However one person's records regarding their medication administration did not have an assessment in place to ensure their safety and the safety of other people using the service was maintained.

Staff were provided with ongoing training to ensure they were kept up to date with current practice. However staff were not provided with regular supervision sessions. This means that staff had not been given an opportunity to meet on a one to one, regular planned basis to discuss any issues which impact on their role.
