During a routine inspection

Care plans were written in a clear and easy to understand way and people's personal preferences were clearly recorded. There were sufficient staff on duty to support people's care needs.

We saw that staff provided care in a way that demonstrated they had a good knowledge of each individual person. Where appropriate, we saw staff providing support and encouragement to the people to do things as independently as possible.

People who use the service, staff and visitors were protected against the risks of unsafe or unsuitable premises.

During our inspection we spoke with three people who lived at Parkside Court, one visitor and four members of staff.

Comments from people using the service included "I am comfortable and staff are friendly". "I am happy here". Relatives told us "My x has been well looked after at Parkside. The staff are busy but are always available to talk to".

During an inspection in response to concerns

The people we spoke with told us:

"There should be more services like this in the community where you can be encouraged to be independent and to maintain your dignity. I have an independent place to live with help if needed."

"All staff are polite, they knock before entering my flat."

"Staff are very good, If there's anything to do they do it."

"I get help with personal care; help to shower. I can press my buzzer at any time."

"The staff come in and make me cups of tea, they have a chat with me. I am very settled here."

"I had an assessment prior to moving in. I can come and go as I please."

The people we spoke with said that they felt safe. Comments included; "I could tell the manager or the staff if I had any problems" and "If I had any concerns I could talk to anyone."

"My medicines are in a medipack, staff dish them out to me."

"I look after my own medicines but as I am finding this difficult staff are going to help me with this."

"The staff come in morning and night to give me my medicines."

"The staff are very helpful and obliging."

"The staff are all very good, they come every fifteen minutes and I have a buzzer so I can call on them at any time."

"Any issues I can tell the manager and it's dealt with."

"I have just been given a questionnaire to fill in which asks my views of the service."
