During an inspection looking at part of the service

People told us they felt respected by all staff at the home and that their needs were met. We found that people were cared for by staff. People's needs were identified by means of carrying out an assessment of need.

People told us they were happy and settled at Alver Bank. One person told us 'This place has a good feeling and staff are very kind'. People said they liked the activities in the home and the religious service held daily.

People were protected from the risks of inadequate nutrition and dehydration. People told us they enjoyed the meals provided. Staff supported people who required assistance with feeding. One person said 'They feed us well here'.

Staff were supported by the provider with their professional development through training, supervision and appraisal.

The provider ensured that Care Quality Commission was notified of incidents appropriately.

During a routine inspection

We found that the provider involved people who used the services and in the development of their individualised care plans. If people were unable to contribute to their care plan then relatives were encouraged to support the person by being involved in the care delivered in line with the person's wishes. The majority of people who lived at this care home had various forms of dementia which meant they were not always able to communicate verbally with us in a meaningful way. During this inspection we used at intervals the Short Observational Framework for Inspection (SOFI).

The provider sought feedback from people who use the service and staff. One person said, "they do take my specific needs into account".

There was evidence of risk assessments and safeguarding policies were in place to protect people who use the services. Staff levels were appropriate to meet the needs of people using the service. Records were managed appropriately and securely stored.
