During a routine inspection

During our visit we looked at one person's records and spoke with one person who lived at the home. We found there were processes in place to make sure people using the service had clear information about the service and the care and support they needed and wanted.

People had their needs assessed and had been involved in ongoing discussions and agreements about their care. We found people were able to make their own decisions, were encouraged to be independent and were supported to take reasonable risks.

We found the home was safe, comfortable and clean. However we also found some areas needed improvement. The manager told us work to improve the home was planned for early 2013. One person living in the home said, "I like it; I'm happy with the way things are".

One person told us they had no complaints and were happy with the staff team.

During a routine inspection

People who used the service told us they were able to make their own choices and decisions. They told us they were 'treated well' and 'looked after'.

People told us they were happy with the care and support they received from staff. One person said, "I get all the support and help that I need". People told us they were happy with the staff team and said, "The staff are very good. We know them and they know us".

Staff told us they were given the training and support they needed to do their jobs properly. They told us they would feel confident to speak out against poor practice if needed and were provided with the training they needed to keep themselves and other people safe.

People who used the service were aware of the complaints procedure and told us they would speak to staff if they had a problem.

People who used the service told us the house was comfortable and warm. One person said, "It is a nice, comfortable house". However we found that some areas of the home needed attention. We were told the areas in need of improvement had already been reported.
