All Inspections

9 April 2013

During a routine inspection

At the time of our inspection there were approximately thirty people who use the service within the local community. To meet the needs of the people who use the service there were approximately forty care workers within these communities. We met with the registered manager and spoke with three other members of staff.

We spoke to four people who use the service and or their carers by telephone. The feedback we received about peoples care and support was positive. One person told us 'the carers are all very good; they come to me on time every day'. Another person told us 'the staff in the office are good. They sort out any problems I may have quickly'.

People told us that they had a good relationship with their regular carers and the service was well organised. People who use the service informed us that the timekeeping of the carers was good and there is consistency with carers that visit people. One person told us 'I have had the same carer for a long time. I like to have the same carers as they know me and what my needs are'.

People who use the service told us that they knew who to speak with if they had a concern or compliant and they had been given information on how to complain and who to contact. This information is kept within their care plan record in people's homes.

We spoke with three members of staff during our inspection. Staff told us they feel supported in their jobs and that the organisations training programme is very good.

During a routine inspection

When we undertook the review of this service they were providing domiciliary care for twenty people. We were able to speak to five of those people directly and to the representatives of another three.

Most people were very happy with the way that the agency managed everything and the staff that came to help them. one told us "we have had the same carer most of the time and if they can't come, for some reason, there are others that we know as well, who come instead". This was important to them as it meant that all of the carers knew how they liked things to be done.

One person said that "my relative has only just started to have help from the agency. When the initial assessment was undertaken, a team of staff came and were introduced to us so that we would be familiar with any one who came". They thought that this was a very good idea.

Other people told us "the carers timekeeping is excellent" and "they are very flexible with what is needed".

One person told us that they had raised some concerns about how things were being done by staff for their relative. However, he was impressed to note that recent conversations with them indicated that they had been made aware of these and that they were addressed.
