During a routine inspection

Prior to our visit we had been informed that Nettleton Manor was in administration and was being managed by Healthcare Management Solutions, a management company appointed by the administrators. During our visit we spoke with people using the service, relatives and staff who confirmed they had received letters and had the opportunity to attended meetings with the management company. One person told us 'I was reassured about everything at the meeting, we have been told it is business as usual.'

People we spoke with were very positive about the care and support they received. They told us they liked living at the home and confirmed they were supported to make choices and decisions about the care they received. They told us they were assisted to be as independent as possible. Comments included: 'When I moved here the staff asked me lots of questions about the care I needed, I'm very happy with everything', 'The staff know how I like things done, they are lovely and kind' and 'I'm happy here and well looked after.'

When we asked people about the staffing levels in the home the majority of people and their relatives told us that they were satisfied with the staffing arrangements in the home. Comments included:' I don't usually have to wait, the staff come and help me when I need them' and 'There seems to be enough staff on, no problems.' However we received negative comments from two people we spoke with. Both persons told us that staff sometimes offered them a shower instead of a bath, giving the reason that they didn't have time to help with a bath. One person said 'Staff sometimes say we have to have a shower instead, if we do get a bath it's a very quick dip in and out, no time for a soak.'

We spoke with some relatives who were visiting at the time of our inspection and they spoke positively about the care provided at the home. They told us that they felt the home provided a good standard of care and the staff treated their relatives with respect. We received comments such as 'The staff are wonderful, we are very pleased with everything', 'Very happy with the care, no complaints' and "I cannot fault the staff at all. My husband has a key worker, who is very helpful and it is useful to have a named member of staff I can go to if I need anything."
