During an inspection looking at part of the service
We observed during our inspection that the people living at Thornton Leigh appeared happy and content living there. People we spoke with told us they were happy with the care they received. Some comments made were:
'I'm really well looked after'.
'I feel quite content here'.
'I like it all, especially the food'.
We spoke with two people about medicines handling at the home who told us they were happy with the arrangements in place for handling their medicines. One person thought medicines were safely managed telling us that carers 'don't leave them about' and they 'always check you have taken them'. A second person told us they were offered their painkillers regularly and confirmed they weren't in any pain.
We found that people's choices with regard to medicines administration were respected. However, the provider did not always have appropriate arrangements in place for recording medicines handling and advice.
During our visit we saw evidence that the care plans were sufficiently detailed and contained enough information for people to be cared for safely and effectively. The records were kept securely and could be located promptly when needed.
