During a routine inspection

We spoke with four people who use the service. They told us they were happy with the support they received. One person said they would rate the service 'Nine out of ten.'

People said they were supported to be as independent as possible. This included using public transport to go shopping, attending church, going on holiday and doing their household chores.

People said there were staff around when they needed them. One person showed us the call system and said staff answered quickly when they used it.

People told us they felt safe. They gave us examples of people they could speak with if they had any concerns. For example, the manager, their keyworker or relatives. People told us staff listened to them and they would be confident telling them about anything that was upsetting them.

A visiting healthcare professional said 'I love coming here.' The person added 'They look after people well here'I have no concerns.'

We saw the provider had taken steps to protect people from the risk of abuse. There were safeguarding procedures in place and staff had undertaken training on protecting vulnerable adults from abuse. A safeguarding concern had been reported and investigated appropriately by the provider.

There were enough skilled and experienced staff to meet people's needs. We saw rotas were in place at the service. These showed flexible support was provided to ensure people received the assistance they required.

There were good systems for assessing and monitoring the quality of people's care. This included regular audits and visits by the provider.

During a routine inspection

The people that we spoke with said they were happy with the support they received. All confirmed that this helped them to be independent.

People said staff always knocked or rang door bells and waited for an answer before going into people's flats. People said that staff were around when they needed them and all knew who their key worker was. They said that staff did not restrict them in any way. We asked people if they felt safe and they told us they did.

People said they were not aware of the complaints procedure, but all could identify someone at the service they would speak with if they had any concerns. Examples were the manager and their key worker. People felt that staff would listen to them if they raised any concerns and would try and resolve matters. One of the people we talked with mentioned that residents' meetings take place where they can talk about anything.

People either showed us or told us that they had copies of their care plan and risk assessments. They said they had contributed to these. People told us about some of the activities they are supported with, such as going to college, shopping, going into town and keeping pets.

The people that we spoke with said they were happy with the arrangements in place to manage their medication.
