During a routine inspection

At the time of our visit, Stepping Out – 439 Green Lanes did not support any of the people using the service with personal care. Supported housing services were being provided to people living at the five projects. These being houses were people supported by the service live. We undertook an inspection looking at the provider’s processes to ensure they met the essential standards of quality and safety. We asked the provider to inform us when they start providing personal care to people and we will re-inspect the service following this.

We found that there were systems in place to ensure people's views and experiences were taken into account in the way the service was provided and delivered in relation to their care.

There were systems to ensure people who used the service experienced care, treatment and support that met their needs and protected their rights.

People who use the service were protected from the risk of abuse because the provider had taken reasonable steps to identify the possibility of abuse and prevent abuse from happening.

People were cared for by staff who were supported to deliver care and treatment safely and to an appropriate standard.

The provider had an effective system to regularly assess and monitor the quality of service that people receive.

During an inspection looking at part of the service

Most of the people that we spoke to said that they were happy living at one of Stepping Out's projects. One person was very positive, saying that 'they had no complaints whatsoever'. People said that they liked the staff and that they were allowed to maintain their independence. However, one person was not enjoying living at the placement and wanted to move.

We visited supported living accommodation for people that use the service. We found it to be clean and suitable. People said that they liked the accommodation. One person explained, 'Yes it is nice. It is good.'

During a routine inspection

We spoke to one person about their experiences of the service. They spoke very positively about the support they had received, saying, 'I'm happy here. I have no complaints about the people who run the service.'

We spoke to care professionals who place the people who use the service, and had mixed responses about their satisfaction with the service. Whilst one care professional was very positive about the services, two care professionals told us that they did not feel the people they placed had successfully engaged with the support services agreed.

In addition we visited a supported living accommodation for people using the service, and found it to be practically suitable, but it was not homely.
