During a routine inspection

At the time of our visit four people were living in the house, two people who used the service were present at the time of our visit. We spoke with these two people about their experience of the service; one person was able to share their experience with us by using different communication styles, including sounds and gestures. The other person we spoke with told us they were happy living in the home and took us to see their room that had been decorated to a high standard, containing a variety of personal effects which made the room homely and inviting. We saw the relationship and interactions between staff and people who used the service were positive and respectful.

We looked at two care plans that had been structured to contained peoples preferences and personal information in a person centered system that focused on people's individual needs. The files contained risk assessments that had been written to identify and reduce the likelihood of injury or harm. The registered manager told us that people had access via organised in house visits to health professionals to help them maintain their health and well being.

The staff we spoke with demonstrated a good understanding of the different types of abuse and were able to provide good insight into the organisations safeguarding policies and that of the Local Authorities reporting processes.

We observed that the managers operated a model of good practice by offering regular supervision and access to training for staff, and observed that staff had access to a framework of training and regular support that enabled them to offer a high quality of care.

We looked at the provider compliance audits carried out by the local authority which were favorable and evidenced the service provided was of a good quality. The visit reports we looked at showed us the provider was using a robust quality monitoring system to ensure safe and respectful care was received by people who used the service.

During a routine inspection

There were five people living at the service. We spoke with all five about their experiences of the service. Most were able to communicate with us; those who could not verbally communicate with us showed us what they were thinking through noises and gestures.

We spoke with one person who told us, 'We are all friends.' And another person told us, 'I have always liked it.'

We found that people were supported with their daily living tasks and were supported with community engagement through the local day centre. We found that people were treated with dignity and respect.

We examined three care plans of people who used the service. We found that people received care and support that met their individual needs and considered their safety and welfare.

People were cared for by staff who were supported to deliver care and treatment safely and to an appropriate standard. We saw that staff had received training appropriate for their role and that this was regularly updated. We saw that staff were able to obtain further qualifications in health and social care to further develop their roles.

We found that records maintained by the service were accurate and fit for purpose.

People who used the service were protected from the risk of abuse, because the provider had taken reasonable steps to identify the possibility of abuse and prevent abuse from happening.

During a routine inspection

We met with three of the five people, who currently live at the home, two people had left earlier to attend their day centre. Two people spoke with us. One person had more difficulty communicating, but we observed that they were relaxed and interacted comfortably with the owner.

The people we spoke with said they liked their home and having their own rooms. They told us they had the things they wanted in their rooms. People said the food was nice and they helped to shop for and cook the meals. They told us they liked going to the day centre and loved going on holiday, and were really looking forward to their next holiday.
