All Inspections

16 October 2013

During a routine inspection

There were 17 people living at the home at the time of our inspection.

We spoke to nine people who all told us how happy they were living at the home. One person said "I have been here twice before while my family were away and I look forward to coming back again".

We reviewed five care plans and noted that care was planned and delivered around each person's care and support needs. We saw that detailed risk assessments were in place in relation to people's daily living needs. This ensured the care and support that was given was safe.

People told us they enjoyed their meals at the home and there was always plenty of choice. One person said "I really enjoy the meals, particularly the roast dinners".

We observed there were effective systems in place to reduce the risk and spread of infection. We noted the home was clean and tidy and free from noxious odours. We saw that staff had received training in infection control and had signed to say they had read and understood the infection control and health and safety policies.

Staff told us they were supported in their roles and attended regular supervision and staff appraisal sessions. We saw that staff were skilled and able to spend time with people. People said "The staff are wonderful and can never do enough for you" We saw evidence that the quality of care was being continually monitored and learning was implemented by staff who took on board people's comments and the outcomes of various audits.

People told us they were involved in decision making in the home and attended residents meetings. We saw evidence of a wide range of activities and the home had its own mini bus which was used by the people in the home four days a week.

People told us that they had good relationships with staff and said that "Staff were very kind and could never do enough for them". People said that they never felt rushed by staff and there was always enough staff to care for their needs.

We observed that people's individual records contained detailed initial assessments and had a personal profile that related to each person. We saw that people's care needs were assessed and care and treatment was planned and delivered in line with their individual care plans.
