During a routine inspection

We spoke with two people who use the service and one relative who told us that the care workers always asked consent before care or support was given. One person told us, "They ask my permission. I can truthfully say they would respect my decision".

We viewed four people's medication risk assessments and care plan documentation. We saw people's individual needs had been considered by the care home. Improvements had been made to the risk assessments and care plans of people who were prescribed medicines.

People who use the service were satisfied with the premises. We spoke to two people who had no concerns about their bedroom or communal areas of the care home. One person told us, "It is a very good building and I have no complaints about it". The provider had a plan of ongoing refurbishments and we saw evidence of recently completed works on the premises.

We observed the records storage in the home manager's office of the care home and saw people's care documentation was stored securely. It was easy to locate when required. We saw people's records were accessible only by care workers and management.

During a routine inspection

Some people who lived in the home had complex needs and were unable to communicate verbally with us. We used a variety of methods, including observation, to assess the experiences of people who use the service.

We spoke to three people who used the service and they were complimentary about the home. For example, one person told us, "They are all very kind".

Care and treatment was not always planned and delivered in a way that was intended to ensure people's safety and welfare. For example, we observed some risk assessments and care plans had not been documented by care staff and this placed people at risk of unsafe care.

Staff we spoke with confirmed they had been interviewed and employment checks had been carried out before they started work at the home. We reviewed the recruitment files of four members of staff which confirmed this.

An appropriate complaints system was in place. One relative told us when they had raised any issues in the past with the management, they had been resolved to their satisfaction.
