During a routine inspection

We spoke with six people using the service and they told us they were happy with the care and support they received. One person told us 'I am very happy here, the staff are brilliant'. Another person said 'I love living here. It's my home'. We observed care being provided in the communal areas of the home and saw staff positively interacting with people. On one occasion we saw a person being supported as they carried out tasks within the kitchen environment and on another occasion a member of staff explained the risk of walking on the wet kitchen floor. We spoke with a visiting health professional who told us 'staff have to deal with clients with complex needs, which are constantly changing and they do it very well'.

We saw the home had effective systems in place to protect people from abuse. One of the people we spoke with told us 'I feel safe here. I don't lock my room'. The home also had systems in place to manage the administration of medication and infection control. We saw that there were frequent residents' meetings and the minutes were displayed in an appropriate format. We saw that the provider carried out an annual quality assurance survey and the responses were analysed to inform future service provision.

During a routine inspection

We spoke with 5 of the 13 people who were living at the home. Other people were out at the time of our visit. People told us that they could make decisions and that the staff were very nice. People said that they had no concerns about how their care needs were met. People commented that they could make choices and these were respected. We were told that staff were available when people needed them and knew what care they required. People told us that they felt safe and happy living at the home. They told us that their privacy was respected and that staff always knocked on their doors before entering.

We observed that staff were courteous and respectful of people's views and opinions and that dignity was respected.
