During a routine inspection

We spoke with two people who received care and support from the service, and two relatives of people who were unable to speak with us, because of their complex needs. All provided only positive comments about the service. These included 'The staff are very respectful and competent. I've had problems (in the past) with staff from other agencies. But not from these (support workers).' And 'I feel safe and trust them. They do what I want them to do.' A relative said 'The service and care is fantastic. We met the carer before my relative started receiving care. They came and had a cup of tea with us. We both liked the carer then, and still do.'

People were treated with dignity and respect and were included and involved in decisions made about their care.

People received safe, appropriate care in line with what they were wanting.

People overall were protected from the risks associated with unsafe management of medication, though some records did not evidence this well.

Overall the service operated a robust recruitment and selection process and prospective staff were properly vetted before providing support. Some parts of the record-keeping in some staff files could be improved.

People knew the service had a complaints process and knew how to raise concerns. They were confident that complaints would be properly looked into.

The people who use the service told us that they were happy with the service that the agency provided and with the support they got from the staff and manager.

People had been assessed before a service was provided so that people's needs could be met. Information about what the agency could offer them was also supplied so that people or their representative felt they were informed about the service that they could expect. People using the service said 'The staff have the skills to help me, they respect my privacy and dignity'. Another person said ' Staff do what they need to do to help me'.

People we spoke to said they had no complaints about the service they had received, they told us that they felt the service was reliable, staff were good and their needs were being met.

Staff confirmed that they felt they received ongoing training in a wide variety of subjects which helped them to carry out their work safely and effectively. They told us that they felt supported to develop their skills which helped them to meet people's individual needs.

Staff spoken with were clear about the action they should take if they suspected abuse was taking place, this helps to protect people.

North Yorkshire County Council raised no concerns about this provider.
