Our view of the service

Living Horizon provides personal care to people living in supported accommodation in Aylesbury. At the time of our inspection there were 5 people living with a mental health related condition and/or learning disability receiving a regulated activity from the service. Not everyone who used the service received personal care. CQC only assesses the quality of support where people receive personal care. This is help with tasks related to personal hygiene and eating. We carried a responsive assessment of 2 quality statements, involving people to manage risks and Infection prevention and control. We carried out an on-site assessment on 3 January 2024. At the last inspection we made three recommendations surrounding ensuring staff understood the importance of good hand hygiene, involving people in decision making and service monitoring and auditing to drive improvement". We observed positive interactions between people and staff. We spoke with 2 people and they both confirmed they were able to talk to staff about their health concerns. We found people were supported to manage and reduce risk of harm to them. Staff completed risk assessment in partnership with people. We found staff were knowledgeable about how to prevent the spread of infections. Communal areas of accommodation were kept clean. One person told us how the staff made sure their living conditions were clean and dust free to prevent a deterioration in their health.

People's experience of this service

We spoke with one person whilst visiting a supported living site and a further one person via telephone. Both people we spoke with told us they knew the staff who supported them. One person told us how they had been supported by staff following the recent incident and how they worked collaboratively with staff to prevent a reoccurrence. They told us the incident had “shocked” them and they did not want it to happen again. Another person told us how staff supported them to go out in the community to the shops and keep their bedroom clean and dust free. They told us this was particularly important as their health could be affected with dust particles.
