Staff told us they were encouraged to provide personalised care based on people’s individual needs. Comments included, “I personalise it. Try to find out what they like or don’t like. I’ve learnt how to knit and crochet as it helps to be able to talk to residents if they have the interest.” Staff had a good understanding of equality and diversity and were conscious of ensuring people did not suffer from any form of discrimination. Comments included, “We cannot discriminate. Whatever needs [people have] we personalise care to make sure they get what they need.”

The provider had a process to support people to voice their opinions and actively give feedback about care. This included residents’ meetings, a residents’ council and individual reviews of their care with staff. The provider had policies and procedures around equality and diversity and recognised where people required specific adjustments to help ensure they did not suffer discrimination.

People told us they did not suffer from discrimination and that staff were open to their feedback. They told us staff were receptive to their needs and intuitive in recognising how they wished to be cared for. Comments included, “Staff notice what we prefer or if we want something done differently.”
