Defence Medical Services

  • Organisations we regulate

The Defence Medical Services (DMS) provides medical care for members of the HM Armed Forces.

The Surgeon General has invited us to undertake independent inspections of defence medical treatment facilities throughout the UK and abroad. There is no statutory requirement for DMS services to be registered under the Health and Social Care Act, however the inspections will be used to report on the current standards of care and to drive improvements.

We started GP and dental inspections in May 2017 and will also inspect:

  • regional rehabilitation units
  • departments of community mental health.

The Surgeon General has agreed that we will publish all inspection reports once the inspection process is completed.
