The Care Quality Commission checks whether hospitals, care homes and care services are meeting government standards. Visit our website at www.cqc.org.uk.
We make sure hospitals, care homes, dental and GP surgeries, and all other care services in England provide people with safe, effective, compassionate and high-quality care, and we encourage them to make improvements.
We do this by inspecting services and publishing the results on our website to help you make better decisions about the care you receive.
Throughout everything we do, we always:
- put people who use services at the heart of our work.
- have an open and accessible culture.
- are independent, rigorous, fair and consistent.
- work in partnership across the health and social care system.
- are committed to being a high-performing organisation.
- promote equality, diversity and human rights.
More information about us
Inspecting all health and social care services in England is a big job, but it’s not all we do. To make sure people receive safe and effective care, we also take enforcement action, register services, work with other organisations and more.
We believe that everyone deserves to receive care that is safe, effective, compassionate and high-quality. For this to happen, we inspect hospitals, care homes, GPs, dental and general practices and other care services all over England.

We’ve set out targets and plans around different areas of our work to help us do our job better.
