We are pleased to announce the appointment of Debbie Ivanova as our new, permanent Deputy Chief Inspector (DCI) of Adult Social Care for the London and South Regions.

Debbie replaces Adrian Hughes, who was DCI for Adult Social Care for the South Region and has retired, and also takes on the London region from Sally Warren, who is now Deputy Chief Inspector for Adult Social Care (National Functions).

Debbie has a long career in regulation with CQC and predecessor bodies. She has been acting in the DCI role since July 2015 and before that was a Head of Inspection for Adult Social Care. Debbie’s background prior to regulation was in social work both in the UK and Eastern Europe.

Commenting on her new permanent role, Debbie said: “I am delighted to be taking on this role leading the South and London regions. I will make sure we regulate Adult Social Care effectively, working with providers to improve services but not tolerating poor practice. In this time of financial challenge across the sector we must maintain our focus on people who use services, keeping them clearly at the heart of our work and the decisions we make.”

Chief Inspector of Adult Social Care, Andrea Sutcliffe, added: "I am thrilled to have appointed Debbie as our permanent Deputy Chief Inspector for Adult Social Care, covering both the London and South regions. Debbie brings a strong value base and a wealth of skills and experience of both the sector and regulation to this important role. From working with her closely since she has been acting up, I know that she will focus resolutely on people who use services, their families and carers and will continue to do a great job in the two regions, as part of the ASC senior leadership team, across the organisation and with providers and our partners.”

Debbie has taken on the permanent role with immediate effect. She will oversee CQC’s regulation of adult social care services across London and across the South region, which spans the Isle of Sheppey to the Isles of Scilly and from Gloucestershire, Oxfordshire and Buckinghamshire to the coast.

I am delighted to be taking on this role leading the South and London regions. I will make sure we regulate Adult Social Care effectively, working with providers to improve services but not tolerating poor practice.
