Patient surveys
We co-ordinate surveys to collect feedback on the experiences of people using a range of health care services provided by the NHS. The results are used in a range of ways, including the assessment of NHS performance as well as in regulatory activities such as registration, monitoring ongoing compliance and reviews.

How we develop our surveys
We develop these surveys with either one of two research organisations:
- The Picker Institute: surveys of hospitals, ambulance services, and community and primary care services (Opens in a new window)
- The National Centre for Social Research: surveys of mental health services (Opens in a new window)
Both these organisations work closely with CQC and the NHS trusts carrying out the surveys.
