Our regulatory sandbox is a collaboration between providers, innovators and CQC.

Working together, we can:

  • set out what good quality care means and publish that for the rest of the sector
  • develop the way CQC inspects clinical activities that rely on new innovations
  • register new types of service providers (where they fall within the activities we regulate)
  • provide the regulatory clarity and support required to deploy innovation safely in health and care services

We're also working with the product regulators - MHRA and BSI - to define the boundaries between our respective regulatory functions.

Current rounds

We're considering topics for future rounds where new models of care, service innovations or technologies are emerging. We're particularly interested in where there's the potential to significantly change the way care is delivered - especially where it does not seem to fit well with our current ways of assessing, registering or monitoring services. Please email suggestions to techinnovation@cqc.org.uk.
