Conclusion and recommendation

Overall, we found that the 14 gambling treatment services provided through the National Gambling Support Network (NGSN) delivered care that was safe, effective, caring, responsive and well-led.

As well as being able to access services in a timely way, people received person-centred care and support that met their needs, which provided them with support to stop gambling and reduced the effects of addiction on themselves and their friends and family.

During our reviews we found evidence that services’ approach to equality, diversity and inclusion was variable and that governance in some services could be improved. We recommend services continue to focus on developing and embedding these areas.

As raised in GambleAware’s Legacy report 2026, with commissioning of services now being split across England, Scotland and Wales, there is concern that this split will create fragmentation and could affect the quality of care people receive. We would urge commissioners to review the findings of this report to make sure services continue to provide care in a similar way so that people experiencing gambling harms still receive the care and support they need, and that there is ongoing oversight and assessment of the quality of services.
