The Care Quality Commission has today, 12 October 2020, published the findings of a focused inspection of The Hillingdon Hospital NHS Foundation Trust.

The inspection, which took place on 4 and 5 August 2020 was in response to concerns around the trusts’ its infection control practices.

Following the inspection, CQC took urgent enforcement action, telling the trust it must ensure there is an effective system to manage the health and safety of people using the hospital. The trust has also been told it must ensure improvement in the oversight of the education centre, along with improvements required in urgent and emergency care and medicine departments to ensure the areas are risk assessed for social distancing and risks related to the spread of COVID-19 are mitigated.

CQC’s Deputy Chief Inspector of Hospitals Nigel Acheson, said:

“We reviewed the work carried out by Hillingdon Hospitals around infection prevention and control practices and in some areas particularly in the emergency department we observed some improvements. Although in this journey of improvement there is still some distance to go.

“Since our inspection the trust leadership have regularly engaged with us and they have sought to assure that the issues identified are being addressed. We continue to monitor the trust closely.

“We did return to the trust in a join inspection with the Health and Safety Executive on 29 and 30 September and will publish our new findings in due course.”

Full reports for the trust will be published on CQC’s website at the following link: www.cqc.org.uk/location/RAS01
