Devon GP rated Outstanding by the Care Quality Commission

The Care Quality Commission (CQC) has rated the care provided at Rolle Medical Partnership as Outstanding overall, following an inspection in March 2016.

Inspectors rated Rolle Medical Partnership in Exmouth, Outstanding for being caring, well-led and responsive to people’s needs and Good for being safe and effective.

Professor Steve Field, Chief Inspector of General Practice said:

“I am delighted to highlight the exceptional service at Rolle Medical Partnership, people are entitled to services which provide safe, effective, compassionate and high quality care. The GPs and staff at Rolle Medical Partnership have demonstrated a real commitment to their patients. All of this hard work and dedication pays off in making a real difference for their patients – which is why we have found this practice to be Outstanding. I hope other practices will see this as a model for excellent care.”

Garry Higgins, Head of Inspection for General Practice, South Region, said:

“It is clear Rolle Medical Partnership is providing an excellent service and is a real asset to the people living in this part of Devon.

“Staff demonstrated a comprehensive approach in managing the differing needs of their patients, proactively gathering feedback, and reflected these needs when planning and delivering services.

“There was a strong desire to learn at the practice, staff were engaged and committed to improving quality of care by learning from every opportunity and this was underpinned by their clear vision and strategy for the practice.

“This is a great example of what outstanding care looks like.”

Amanda Fisk, Director of Assurance and Delivery, at NHS England South West, said:

“The report highlights the practice’s embracement of digital technology to improve patient care as well as its engagement with their patient group which is key to success. With outstanding ratings across the report, the practice is setting the standard for high quality care.”

The report highlights a number of areas of outstanding practice, including:

  • A commitment to continuous learning and forward thinking. For example, the practice is a part of local pilot schemes, such as reaching out to local schools and colleges to help tackle low self-esteem.
  • The practice demonstrated creative digital innovation. For example, the practice had a strong online practice with a website, online services and its own social media page.
  • Services were tailored to meet patients choice and needs, and patients were also involved in decisions about their care.
  • Staff had the skills, knowledge and experience to deliver high-quality care and treated patients with dignity and respect.
  • The practice management drove improvements in the delivery of outstanding care and also encouraged and valued feedback from patients, the public and staff.
  • Staff said management were approachable and took the time to listen.
  • The Patient Participation Group actively promoted and influenced improvements which the management team acted upon.

Rolle Medical Partnership delivered exceptional, innovative, and proactive person-centred care.
