Our consultation document Shaping the future sets out our vision for the future regulation of health and social care.

These proposals for the next five years respond to changes in the way health and social care is being delivered and the demographic challenge of increasing numbers of older people, who will use multiple services to meet their needs. So a key feature of our plans is to develop a 'single shared view of quality' – a framework for measuring quality across the health and care system and making it easier to share that information.

Other key themes are:

  • Strengthening our use of data and information
  • Targeting and tailoring inspections
  • A more flexible approach to registration
  • Considering how well hospitals use resources
  • Assessing quality of care across local areas.

See our 2016 to 2021 strategy page for a presentation outlining the proposals and links to the consultation documents.

You can tell us your views using the online form or by email to strategyconsultation@cqc.org.uk.

The consultation is open until 14 March and we will respond to feedback when we publish our strategy this May.

The landscape is changing – and we can't stand still.
