The Care Quality Commission has found the quality of care provided by the Teams Medical Practice, Gateshead to be Outstanding following an inspection carried out in December 2018.

Inspectors rated the practice, Outstanding for effectiveness, caring, responsiveness and well-led. It was rated Good for safe.  A full report of the inspection has been published at: www.cqc.org.uk/location/1-545758069

Under CQC’s programme of inspections, all England’s GP practices are being given a rating according to whether they are safe, effective, caring, responsive and well led.

The report highlights a number of areas of outstanding practice including:

  • The culture of the practice and the way it was led and managed drove the delivery and improvement of sustained high-quality, person-centred care
  • Feedback from patients was consistently positive and was higher than local and national averages.

The practice had recruited practice health champions who were actively involved in the running of the practice and in promoting health and wellbeing initiatives including a weekly well-established walking group.

Beverley Cole, Head of General Practice - North

“This is the second time this practice has been rated Outstanding, they were last inspected in January 2015, to maintain these exemplary standards clearly shows that a lot of hard work has been done to ensure patients using the service are receiving top class care.

“I was encouraged to see that the practice had established excellent links with the local community and strove to promote health and wellbeing within the local area. The service was also involved in developing a foodbank in the local community centre. In addition, practice staff were collecting and distributing sanitary products to women unable to afford these products as part of a period poverty project.

“The practice set very high standards when it was rated as Outstanding in January 2015. It is therefore very encouraging to see that since then the practice has remained innovative and focussed on community engagement and collaborative working to make the area a better place to live for local residents. I congratulate everyone at the Teams Medical Practice.”
