Supported living service in Suffolk is rated Outstanding by the Care Quality Commission

The Care Quality Commission has found the quality of care provided by ClarkeCare Limited (Suffolk) in Bury St Edmunds, Suffolk, to be Outstanding following an inspection carried out in September.

ClarkeCare Limited (Suffolk) provides personal care and support for people aged 18 upwards living in their own homes. This includes supporting people following an illness or an operation to get them back to their usual routines. The service also supports people living with life changing conditions including dementia, multiple sclerosis and Huntington's disease, as well as providing end of life care.

On the day of the inspection there were 25 people using the service. Inspectors found staff were caring and compassionate and people were being provided with safe, responsive, caring, effective and well led care. Under CQC's new programme of inspections, all adult social care services are being given a rating according to whether they are safe, effective, caring, responsive and well led.

The report ClarkeCare Limited (Suffolk) on highlights innovative and creative practice used by staff and a clear commitment by managers to continually improve. People were supported by a highly motivated and well trained staff team.

The service received numerous compliments about the care and support provided. People told inspectors they were introduced to the care workers in advance so they knew would be supporting them. They felt safe and trusted the care workers who came into their home.

People said they were supported by a consistent team of skilled care workers who they had developed good relationships with. People and relatives valued the relationship they had with the service's management team and care workers and there were systems in place to ensure that people's rights to respect, privacy and dignity were promoted.

Jemima Burnage, CQC's Head of Inspection for Adult Social Care in the central region said:

"We found that people using ClarkeCare Limited (Suffolk) and their relatives were overwhelmingly positive about the quality of their care. Inspectors found many examples of the service's management implementing innovative approaches to ensure care was delivered to a high standard.

"The service had a strong person-centred culture. Everything was based on the needs and wishes of the individual and how those needs and wishes could be recognised, supported and met to give each person the best life they could have.

"There was an open and empowering ethos in the service. The leadership was clear about their expectations relating to how the service should be provided. Care workers were highly motivated, felt valued and were proud of working for the service. They understood their roles and responsibilities in providing safe and high quality care.

"The management and staff should be proud of the great service they are providing to ensure people receive the best care possible to suit their specific needs."

Andrea Sutcliffe, Chief Inspector of Adult Social Care, said:

"The quality of care which our inspectors found here was exceptional and I am very pleased that we can celebrate the service's achievements.

"An outstanding service is the result of a tremendous amount of hard work and commitment. I would like to thank and congratulate everyone involved."
