A Corby general practice has been praised by inspectors, after it significantly improved the standard of care it offered its patients.

The Care Quality Commission (CQC) inspected Dr Roman Sumira’s practice in Studfall Court, Corby, Northamptonshire, on 4 December 2020.

The inspection was undertaken to determine whether the service had addressed issues that CQC previously highlighted.

CQC’s previous inspection, which took place in October 2019, led to it being rated Inadequate and placed in special measures as it was not ensuring people’s safety.

The latest inspection found that the practice had made significant improvements and was now meeting standards that people should be able to expect.

The service is now rated Good overall and it has exited special measures. The service is also rated Good for being safe, effective, caring, responsive and well-led.

Janet Williamson, CQC’s deputy chief inspector for primary medical services in the central region, said:

“Our latest inspection of Dr Roman Sumira’s practice found it had significantly improved the service it offered its patients.

“The governance of the practice had improved significantly since our last inspection; staff training had been completed and staff changes had enabled the delivery of high-quality person-centred care.

“Staff dealt with patients with kindness and respect and involved them in decisions about their care.

“Patients could access care and treatment in a timely despite the current COVID-19 situation, appointments were offered via the telephone or face to face as required.

“The progress we saw is particularly noteworthy against the backdrop of challenges presented by COVID-19, so I congratulate the service for its hard work.”
