CQC rate Marigold Nursing Home as Outstanding

The Care Quality Commission (CQC) has rated a care home, in Sunderland as Outstanding.  The quality of care provided by Marigold Nursing Home was rated as Good for safety, effectiveness and responsiveness and Outstanding for caring and well-led. Overall, the service has been rated as Outstanding.

The Marigold Nursing Home cares for up to 34 some of whom have nursing needs and may be living with dementia. At the time of the inspection, November 2018, 29 people were living at the home.

Some of the features from the inspection included:

  • People and relatives told inspectors that the service was exceptional and many told inspectors how dedicated staff had been a positive influence on their family member. External health care professionals also expressed how they were impressed by the caring nature of the staff
  • Healthwatch is an independent consumer champion that gathers and represents the views of the public about health and social care services. The Marigold Nursing Home had been recognised by the local Healthwatch with a star award. The organisation praised the service - in that it demonstrated strong leadership skills, empowering staff through education, reflection and encouragement

Ros Sanderson, Head of Inspection for Adult Social Care in the North, said:

“We found the care being provided at the Marigold Nursing Home to be outstanding. People were at the heart of the service with dedicated caring professionals. It was encouraging to see people were encouraged to take part in a range of activities to support both their physical and emotional wellbeing.

“Staff managed medicines safely. The service maintained a high standard of cleanliness and hygiene. People were supported to access health professionals when required.

“CQC often comment on the importance of transparent and excellent leadership. We found that this service was led by an exceptional registered manager who provided strong leadership and led by example. They relentlessly reflected on their own performance and used information from a range of research sources to support people to have the best outcomes.

“We received a range of comments which demonstrated how care exceeded expectations. It is clear everyone working at The Marigold Nursing Home are providing outstanding care and I congratulate them on their outstanding rating.”
