During an inspection in response to concerns

During November and December 2012 we visited a sample of locations for Tees, Esk and Wear Valley NHS Foundation Trust . This was in response to feedback from people who used services, a range of safeguarding concerns, complaints and other serious incidents that had occurred within the trust. We visited Victoria Road as a part of this sample of locations.

We spoke with eight people who used the service. They all reported they were happy with the care they received at Victoria Road. Comments from people included, "It is better than hospital. Here I can meditate. I couldn't do that in hospital. Whereas here I am supported in my Buddhist faith. It has helped me with my recovery so much." and 'I've been here 17 years and was one of the first to move in. It's always been a good place to be.'

We found that people were cared for in accordance with their needs because risk assessments were carried out and care plans developed to manage risks.

People were protected against the risks associated with medicines because the provider had appropriate arrangements in place to manage medicines. However staff told us that for some months there has been a lack of regular pharmacist oversight and only recently had this improved.

The people we spoke with reported that they were satisfied with the service provided, and had not had a reason to make a complaint.
