During a routine inspection

We reviewed three care and treatment records in detail. These showed us that people had been involved wherever possible in their care and treatment plans. This and the other evidence reviewed demonstrated to us that people's privacy, dignity and independence were respected.

We noted that staff were engaged with people in a positive way and that they adopted a consistent and therapeutic approach towards people whose behaviours could sometimes be challenging or self-injurious. This showed us that care and treatment was planned and delivered in a way that was intended to ensure people's safety and welfare.

Staff outlined examples of the care they provided and showed a good understanding of the different needs of people that were receiving assessement and treatment on this unit. This showed us that people were cared for by staff who were supported to deliver care and treatment safely and to an appropriate standard.

The trust had a clear audit programme in place and evidence was seen of the actions taken in response to any identified concerns. This meant that the provider had an effective system to regularly assess and monitor the quality of service that people receive.

Evidence was seen that people were supported to make their concerns known through the key worker system and by accessing the independent advocacy service. This meant that any comments and complaints people made were responded to appropriately.
