During a routine inspection

We spoke with two people using the service. Although one person had some difficulty fully expressing what they were trying to say, they were smiling and looked happy and comfortable in their surroundings. Another person we spoke with told us, 'I am happy, I like the staff and I like being here'.

People were well cared for and their care records contained detailed information to show how they were to be looked after. The care records also showed that people gave consent for their care and support.

The medication system was safe and people received their medicines safely and as prescribed.

People were cared for by a sufficient number of experienced staff who were suitably trained. This helps ensure the safety and welfare of the people using the service.

The complaints procedure in place ensured people were given clear guidance on how to make a complaint.

During a routine inspection

None of the people staying at the home at the time of our visit were able to tell us about their experiences at the home as they did not communicate verbally. We contacted relatives of two of the people using the service by telephone following the visit to get some feedback from them. Both the relatives we spoke to were very happy with the standard of care provided to their sons. They told us that they felt involved in the care as the staff visited them at least once a year for a review of their son's care. They both said they felt confident their son was safe and had their needs met at the home. They both praised the staff and the manager of the home. One person said it was "a fantastic service". The other person said that their son getting a place at the home was like "winning the lottery".
