During a routine inspection

In order to assist us in our inspection we were accompanied by a specialist advisor. The specialist advisor had experience in the area of care being inspected and was able to spend time with people to obtain their views. They also spoke with relatives of people who were at the unit and staff. Overall they found people had a positive experience.

Carers told us, "The unit is caring" and said they felt involved in their relative's care.

We found evidence in the care plans patients had been consulted about their care. When we spoke with a patient they told us they felt involved in their care and able to speak with staff. They said, "Staff will explain if you do not understand something."

We observed that interactions by staff with patients were positive and patients were involved in activities. A patient told us, "Have enjoyed all the activities in the evenings like street dance, art, yoga."

We looked at staffing arrangements and found in both units staffing was planned in order to meet the needs of people who received care. Processes were in place to ensure staff were suitable to work with vulnerable people and where appropriate staff such as nurses were registered with the relevant professional body.

During an inspection looking at part of the service

We did not speak to people who use the service as part of this inspection process.

This was because the trust sent us enough evidence to show that they had completed all of the things they said they would do.

However their experiences were captured through records, other information we received from the trust, and from other people they have contact with.
