All Inspections

16 October 2012

During a routine inspection

We co-ordinated our inspection of services provided by Solent NHS Trust (the Trust) with the H.M. Inspectorate of Prisons (HMIP). The Trust provided a nurse led primary healthcare service and the Integrated Drug Treatment System. It also helped to provide in-patient care in the prison healthcare centre. Our inspection visit covered two days and we focussed on the nurse led primary healthcare service and in-patient care.

We spoke with 27 people about the healthcare services provided. They expressed a wide range of views. Some said it was better and others similar to healthcare available in the community. Some told us they experienced delays in getting appointments and obtaining medication they required.

We saw that people were treated with respect. They were given information and advice about their health problems and any treatment they received.

The Trust worked with other health care providers to ensure that people received specialist health care treatment when that was required.

We saw that healthcare staff received regular management supervision and had opportunities to develop and enhance their learning and skills.

There were arrangements in place to ensure the Trust's procedures were followed and the quality of the service people received was maintained and/or improved.

We found that some people's health and well-being had been compromised because of delays in providing medication prescribed for them.
