During an inspection looking at part of the service

We carried out this announced focussed inspection on 28 June 2021 under section 60 of the Health and Social Care Act 2008 as part of our regulatory functions. We planned the inspection to check whether the registered provider was meeting the legal requirements in the Health and Social Care Act 2008 and associated regulations. The inspection was led by a Care Quality Commission, (CQC), inspector who was supported by a specialist dental adviser.

To get to the heart of patients’ experiences of care and treatment, we asked the following three questions:

• Is it safe?

• Is it effective?

• Is it well-led?

These questions form the framework for the areas we look at during the inspection.

Our findings were:

Are services safe?

We found this practice was providing safe care in accordance with the relevant regulations.

Are services effective?

We found this practice was providing effective care in accordance with the relevant regulations.

Are services well-led?

We found this practice was providing well-led care in accordance with the relevant regulations.

Background

Mydentist - Chapeltown Road - Chapeltown is in Leeds and provides NHS and private dental care and treatment for adults and children.

Due to the nature of the premises, access for people who use wheelchairs and those with pushchairs would be difficult. People who use wheelchairs and those with pushchairs would be signposted to a local sister practice which has level access. Car parking spaces are available near the practice.

The dental team includes three dentists, five dental nurses, one dental hygienist and therapist, three receptionists and a practice manager. The practice has three treatment rooms.

The practice is owned by a partnership and as a condition of registration must have a person registered with the CQC as the registered manager. Registered managers have legal responsibility for meeting the requirements in the Health and Social Care Act 2008 and associated regulations about how the practice is run. The registered manager at Mydentist - Chapeltown Road - Chapeltown is the practice manager.

During the inspection we spoke with two dentists, three dental nurses and the practice manager. We looked at practice policies and procedures and other records about how the service is managed.

The practice is open:

Monday to Thursday from 9am to 5.30pm

Friday from 9am to 4pm

Our key findings were:

During a routine inspection

People's privacy, dignity and independence were respected. We observed staff treating people with respect, being polite and courteous. One person told us, 'It's excellent here, I hate coming to the dentist but they are so patient with you and make you feel so welcome.' Another person said, 'They really look after me well, I can't complain about anything.'

People experienced care, treatment and support that met their needs and protected their rights. We spoke with two people and they told us they were very happy with the service they received. We looked at the feedback from satisfaction questionnaires the practice sent to people between January and April 2013. These showed that people reported very high levels of satisfaction with the practice.

People were treated in a clean, hygienic environment. The people we spoke with told us that they had no concerns with the hygiene within the practice. One person told us, "It's always clean when I come, nothing is out of place."

People were cared for, or supported by suitably qualified, skilled and experienced staff. Appropriate checks had been undertaken before staff were employed by the practice. One person told us, 'The staff are really competent here, they all know what they are doing.'

There were quality monitoring programmes in place, which included people being asked to provide feed-back about their care and treatment and regular audits. This provided a good overview of the quality of the service provided.
