People should be cared for by staff who are properly qualified and able to do their job (outcome 12)

Meeting this standard

We checked that people who use this service

  • Are safe and their health and welfare needs are met by staff who are fit, appropriately qualified and are physically and mentally able to do their job.

How this check was done

We reviewed information given to us by the provider.

We spoke to the relevant Clinical Commissioning Group (CCG).

Our judgement

People were cared for, or supported by, suitably qualified, skilled and experienced staff.

Reasons for our judgement

When we visited Alderley Edge Medical Practice we were concerned that certain staff did not have Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) checks. These checks help employers make safer recruitment decisions and may prevent unsuitable people from working with vulnerable groups. The level of check may be enhanced or standard and can be determined by a risk assessment of the post which the staff member occupies.

The provider sent us an action plan informing us that DBS checks had now been received in relation to the clinical staff who work at he practice. We confirmed with the provider that the checks had been provided at the most comprehensive level available.
