During an inspection looking at part of the service

We used a number of different methods to help us understand the experiences of people who used the service, because some of the people who used the service had complex needs which meant they were not able to tell us their experiences. Those that could, told us, "I am okay" and "very nice people."

Staff told us that they worked as a team, and that they felt supported by the management team. One staff member said, "Brilliant place to work."

We found that people who used the service were involved as far as possible in care decisions and in life choices. Care was always delivered in a way that ensured their dignity was promoted. Care plans and delivery of care for some people was more task orientated than person centred.

People were protected from the risks of unsafe or inappropriate care and treatment because accurate and appropriate records had been maintained.

During a routine inspection

We used a number of different methods to help us understand the experiences of people who used the service, because some of the people who used the service had complex needs which meant they were not able to tell us their experiences. Those that could, told us, "I am okay" and "I would like more to eat."

Staff told us that they worked as a team, and that they felt supported by the senior staff. One staff member said, "I enjoy working here." Another said, "I am on my induction and really enjoying it."

We found that people who used the service were not fully involved in care decisions and in life choices. Care was not always delivered in a way that ensured their dignity was promoted. Care plans and delivery of care for some people was more task orientated than person centred.

People who used the service were protected from the risk of abuse because the provider had taken reasonable steps to identify the possibility of abuse and prevent abuse from happening.

Appropriate checks were undertaken before staff began work. People were not protected from the risks of unsafe or inappropriate care and treatment because accurate and appropriate records had not been maintained.

During an inspection in response to concerns

We used a number of different methods to help us understand the experiences of people who used the service. Some people using the service had complex needs, which meant they were not able to tell us their experiences. Those who could told us they were, 'OK and felt comfortable.' We spoke to three visitors, one told us, "They are kind and they seem to understand what care is needed." Another said, "I think that once the home has more people in, it will be better, more sociable."

We found that the care delivered was not always accurately documented. We saw that people were treated kindly and spoken with in a respectful manner. The provider could not evidence that there were enough qualified, skilled and experienced staff to meet people's needs.
