During a routine inspection

Home Support provides short term personal care for adults who have recently been discharged from hospital or other community care settings. Care is provided for a period of between 6-8 weeks. The aim is to enable people to regain independence. If care is still required after this time Home Support refer to other more long term agencies.

We found Home Support securely maintained both electronic and paper based records which were accurate and updated as required. We found all risk assessments were up to date with review dates highlighted to re assess the issues.

We found that all people who used the service had consented to the reablement care plans with both their social workers and the reablement co-ordinators. People who used the service told us; 'Staff always ask permission before they do anything and they tell you exactly what and why they are doing things'.

We found there were robust processes in place to monitor the quality of the service. We found Home Support had up to date policies and procedures in place to support the safe running of the service.

Home Support had an intense recruitment process for people wishing to become carers, with all required checks being carried out before employment commenced. Disclosure and Barring Checks were carried out on all staff every three years.

Home Support had a robust complaints policy and process however they had had no complaints in recent months for us to track.

Staff told us; 'I have been here years and really enjoy the challenge and seeing people able to get back to being able to care for themselves is great'. 'I get a real buzz out of knowing that I have been part of getting people to where they need to be to carry on with their life'.
