During an inspection looking at part of the service

At our last inspection in June 2013, we identified that recruitment processes had not been as thorough as they should have been to give assurance that only suitable staff had been employed. At the time we judged that this had a minor impact on people who used the service. We set compliance actions and told the provider to improve.

We gave short notice of our inspection so that any disruption to people's care and treatment were minimised. We spoke with the practice manager a manager from another of the provider's practice and the area manager. We found that the provider had made the necessary improvements.

There were arrangements in place to deal with foreseeable emergencies.

People were protected from the risk of infection because appropriate guidance had been followed.

Appropriate checks were undertaken before staff began work, so that people were cared for and treated by suitable staff.

During a routine inspection

During this inspection we spoke with four members of staff, this included a manager from another of the provider's practices. The regular practice manager was on leave on the day of our inspection. We looked at the treatment records of six people and also looked at four sets of staff file. We also conducted telephone interviews with six people who use the service.

We found that people had the information they needed to help them make choices about their treatment. One person told us, "Everything was explained properly and I was able to decide on the treatment".

People told us that they had no concerns about the care and treatment that they received. One person said, 'The service is excellent, I am very pleased with the treatment that I have had".

We found that people received care and treatment in a clean and hygienic environment. People that we spoke with had no concerns about the cleanliness of the environment. One person told us, "It's always very clean".

Recruitment processes had not been as thorough as they should have been to give assurance that only suitable staff had been employed.

We found that the provider had systems in place to monitor the quality of service that people received. People that we spoke with confirmed that the treatment they received was of good quality.
