All Inspections

31 October and 7 November 2013

During a routine inspection

We visited two people who used Home Instead Senior Care - Milton Keynes to find out their experiences of using the service. We also spoke with two members of staff and the registered manager. We reviewed the care plans of two people using the service.

One person told us that the staff had provided them with personal care when they had not been very well. They also told us that the staff had been 'patient ' and 'caring' and had been responsive to their needs and 'encouraged' them to be independent, and had done this in a considerate manner.

Another person told us that the staff were always 'punctual' and very good in providing support. They also said the 'Attitude of the staff is great', and 'they think of you as a human being'. They told us they had been fully involved in the planning of their care and were asked on a regular basis whether they were happy with the care received.

We found that people using the service gave their informed consent for the care and treatment that they received and they received care that met their individual needs. We also found that staff received the appropriate training and the provider had a quality assurance system to ensure that people were happy with the level of care provided.

During a routine inspection

We spoke with two people's relatives and they gave their feedback about how the service was provided to their family member. The relatives told us that they were pleased with the level of care that their family member received from the service. They also told us that the care was provided by regular carers who understood the needs of their family member.

The relatives we spoke with told us they were fully involved with their family members care planning and that staff communicated with them on a regular basis and told them if they had any concerns about their family member's wellbeing.

One of the relatives told us that a member of staff had assessed their family member's needs fully before they started to use the service. This was to make sure that any care given was safe and in line with their individual requirements. Another relative told us that they thought the staff were well trained to do their job and that they had observed the staff assist their family member to move safely around their home.
