During an inspection looking at part of the service

During our inspection in October 2013 we found that the provider had not met the regulations that related to the recruitment of staff.

We carried out this follow up visit to check that the provider had taken the necessary action that ensured they now met the regulations.

During a routine inspection

We carried out an inspection at the Clockhouse Medical Practice to look at the care and welfare of the patients who used the service.

During our inspection we spoke to three patients, six members of staff, one consultant and the infection control lead. In addition four patients who were attending the service completed our patient questionnaire.

All four questionnaires showed us that people rated the service 'excellent'. We were told by one patient we spoke with 'Very happy, no complaints.'

The staff that we interviewed told us the ways in which they ensured that patients understood their treatment which meant they could make an informed decision.

We found that although the practice had a good recruitment policy, there were some gaps in the information required to be kept on staff files.

Each person that we spoke with on the day told us they could approach the staff if they were unhappy about anything.

During a check to make sure that the improvements required had been made

During our inspection in March 2013 we found that the provider had not delivered any safeguarding training to any of the staff working at the service. For this inspection we reviewed the information the provider had sent us and spoke to staff. We were satisfied that the provider had carried out the necessary steps to ensure compliance.

During a routine inspection

We saw how to provider ensures that the people who use the service are treated with dignity and respect. All individuals have specific treatment pathways in place that are well documented and shared between departments and professionals. The provider has not provided the staff with training on the protection of vulnerable adults, this means that staff are not aware of the signs of abuse or how to respond to allegations of abuse.

Staff are employed through a system of interview and we saw that each member had the correct checks in place and satisfactory references. The provider has a system in place to regularly assess quality and seeks feedback from people who use the service.
