During a routine inspection

We completed a comprehensive inspection of Matrix Health Services UK Limited on 16 and 17 May 2022.

The service was registered in 2012, to be ‘…the patient’s local provider of choice for a range of secondary care specialties through achieving excellence in clinical outcomes and patient experience’.

The service is registered at e.volve Business Centre in Houghton le Spring, Tyne & Wear.

We rated this service as good because the service was safe, caring, effective, responsive and well led.

During a routine inspection

The service is currently providing the clinical input into a three year commissioned service for the care of patients who suffer from carpal tunnel syndrome. This is a condition which occurs when a nerve, from the forearm, becomes pressed or squeezed at the wrist. This service offers assessment advice, investigation and necessary treatment on behalf of local clinical commissioning groups.

The patient health records were not held by Matrix Health Services Limited at their headquarters as they were kept within the NHS system. Administration staff at Matrix did however have limited access to electronic patient records for the purposes of arranging appointments before and after surgery. The nominated consultant completed the documentation and patient records in line with the service.

The service worked collaboratively with other statutory health care agencies.

The provider, Matrix Health Services UK Limited employed a range of healthcare professionals who provided the assessment and treatment of people who used the service.

We saw that the provider had a system in place for the quality checking of systems to manage risks and assure the health, welfare and safety of people who receive care were being met. The provider also responded to any complaints they received.

There was an effective complaints system available and people were given information about how to make a complaint or raise concerns. Although there was no ongoing concerns staff were confident that they would deal with any in line with their policies and procedures.

During a routine inspection

The service is currently providing the medical input, to a consultant led facility for care of patients who suffer from heavy menstrual bleeding. This service offers assessment advice, investigation and necessary treatment as part of the Easington Community Menorrahagia service.

The patient health records were not held by Matrix Health Services UK Limited for this service as they were kept within the NHS system. The consultant completed the documentation and patient records in line with the service specifications.

All staff who have patient contact had received training and guidance in safeguarding adults and children and are provided with the appropriate information to make it possible for them to refer their concerns though the safeguarding process.

Staff were recruited and selected for the role they undertook and appropriate checks had been carried out for consultants who were working under practicing privileges.

There was an effective complaints system available and people were given information about how to make a complaint or raise concerns. Although there was no ongoing concerns staff were confident that they would deal with any in line with their policies and procedures.
