25 April 2013

During a routine inspection

The manager named in this report has a new position within the company and is now the area manager.

We spoke with five people who use the service and two relatives. These are some of the things they told us:

'My relative is quite happy with the service. The carers treat them in a respectful way and deliver the care and support they need. '

'I am really happy with the care and support that I get.'

'I have regular carers, who are all very good.'

'It is a reliable service, I am quite happy with it.'

'I couldn't wish for a better service.'

'I am very happy with the care my relative receives.'

We also looked at the results of six telephone monitoring checks. These were some of the checks staff had made during April 2013 to find out people's level of satisfaction with the service. These showed that people felt they were treated with respect and dignity and had a regular team of carers. Most people were satisfied with the service and had the opportunity to raise any issues they felt needed to be improved.

During a routine inspection

As part of the inspection process we spoke with the registered manager, branch manager and the organisations quality and training manager. We also spoke with five people who use the service and six members of staff.

The people we spoke with were very complementary about the care and support provided by the staff employed by the agency. Comments included 'All the staff are very good and look after me very well' and 'I have always found the staff to be kind, caring and considerate.'

However, four people using the service expressed concern about the number of different staff providing their care and support. They told us that they did not know from day to day who was going to arrive and there was little continuity of care. One person made the following comment 'I used to have one main carer but now I just have a procession of different carers coming into my home, it is very upsetting. Another person told us 'It takes me a long time to build up a trusting relationship with my carers and I am unable to do this because the agency keeps sending me different people.'
