All Inspections

3 October 2012

During a routine inspection

We used a number of different methods to help us understand the experiences of people who used the service, because some of the people using the service had complex needs which meant they were not fully able to tell us their experiences. Only one person was in residence when we visited on 03 October 2012.

We observed that staff members were polite and attentive towards people who used the service, in particular one person who had recently moved in and who was still settling in as the move had been a big change for them. We saw that staff made good eye contact with people and used appropriate methods to reassure them when they needed emotional support or help.

During our visit on 03 October 2012 to Ridgemont House people told us that they felt respected and involved. One person who used the service told us that they were able to make choices about aspects of their care. For example, they could choose when they went out and they were also able to make a decision as to whether or not they participated in social activities.

People told us they were satisfied with the level of care and support they received at Ridgemont House and that they felt well looked after by the staff. We were told that the staff were caring and helpful to them. One person told us "I have just moved in but they are good to me. I like my room and I chose it myself. I feel safe here and I can play my music when I like, until all the new people move in."
