Archived: N. R. Smith Orthodontics

Orthodontics is the dental specialty that aims to improve the appearance, position and function of crooked or abnormally arranged teeth. The provider of this service, Mr N R Smith is a specialist in orthodontics (orthodontist). This means they are a dentist recognised and registered by the General Dental Council as a specialist in orthodontics.

Patients we spoke with told us that they had been made aware of the risks and benefits of any treatment options they were given. We saw that each patient had signed a consent form for their proposed treatment.

Each patient's treatment plan outlined the proposed treatment and how this would be achieved. We saw copies of the treatment plans patients had received, patients had signed them to show they understood and consented to the proposed treatment. One of the patients we spoke with told us they were clear about their treatment plan and what was involved. They said: "He always said it would take two years and we are on target".

The practice had a designated decontamination room. This had been designed to accommodate all the equipment necessary for decontamination and to separate decontamination procedures from the clinical areas. Staff we spoke with explained accurately the processes and procedures in place to decontaminate instruments.

We spoke with the orthodontist who was also the provider of this service. They explained the measures they took to assess and evaluate the treatment they provided.
