During a routine inspection

The agency was providing care and support to one person in their own home in addition to providing staff for other services that required care workers.

The care record for the one person using the service contained enough information to show how they were to be supported and cared for. We spoke to a relative of the person. They were very complimentary about the staff and the care and support provided. Comments made included; 'Absolutely fantastic, I could not ask for more' and 'So caring and reassuring'.

The system in place for managing medicines in people's homes was robust. This helps ensure the safety and welfare of people using the service.

Arrangements were in place to ensure that staff were appropriately supported to enable them to deliver care to service users safely.

People benefited from a well- managed agency that had systems in place to monitor the quality of the service provided.

People were provided with clear information about the procedure in place for handling complaints.

During a routine inspection

We did not speak to people who used the agency as the agency did not have any people in the community using its services. The agency was operational and was providing care staff to other agencies. We spoke to three providers who used staff from the agency. They told us they were more than satisfied with the staff that were supplied. They said 'They are very good with the residents. They tend to send the same carer which is good for us. They get to know our way of working and most importantly they get to know the residents', and 'I have no concerns as far as their work ethics go. They are very good'. 'They get on well with our residents and definitely do what specification we require. I would go back to Abacus as first choice if we needed extra staff'. They also said 'All the time we have used them they have never let us down. They arrive on time and do what is required of them. I would say they are lovely people'. 'We have used both male and female carers from the agency. They seem to know their job well'.

The service had all the required policies, procedures and documents systems in place to support people to receive the care and support of their choice. We found staff had undergone an induction and training programme and there were supervision arrangements in place to monitor staff performance. There were also arrangements in place to monitor the quality of the service that would be delivered once the agency was providing a service to people in the community.
