Meeting this standard

We checked that people who use this service

  • Are protected from abuse, or the risk of abuse, and their human rights are respected and upheld.

How this check was done

We looked at the personal care or treatment records of people who use the service, carried out a visit on 8 October 2012, observed how people were being cared for and talked with people who use the service. We talked with carers and / or family members and talked with staff.

Our judgement

The provider was meeting this standard.

People who use the service were protected from the risk of abuse, because the provider had taken reasonable steps to identify the possibility of abuse and prevent abuse from happening.

Reasons for our judgement

People who used the service were protected from the risk of abuse because the provider had taken reasonable steps to identify the possibility of abuse and prevent abuse from happening.

Staff we spoke with demonstrated an understanding of the different types and signs of abuse and the processes they needed to follow. Staff were aware of how to respond in regards to reporting a safeguarding issue. The staff also demonstrated that they were aware of how to report safeguarding concerns both internally to relevant external agencies, such as the Local Authority and Care Quality Commission.

The provider responded appropriately to any allegation of abuse .We were able to track a safeguarding incident and reviewed the record keeping and action plans from the incident. We were able to see that appropriate action had been taken and documented.

We were able to review the training records and programme outline for safeguarding within the service. Training records showed that safeguarding training formed part of the induction and mandatory training for the organisation. The training records were complete and showed evidence that staff were up to date with their safeguarding training.
